Gardenvista is inspired by the captivating story of “The Secret Garden”. This delightful tale by Francis Hodgson Burnett is about two sickly children who, with some help, discovered a neglected mystical garden and replanted it. As the story goes, the garden gradually blossomed and, at the same time, the children's health glowed and their good spirits were also restored. In short, the garden has re-awakened the spirits for those who dwell in it.

This story is a reflection of today’s hectic world. With so much going on around us, we tend to forget who we really are or we lose our sense of self. “The Secret Garden”, on the other hand, is basically a soul-searching journey - a journey that is detached from the outside world, exploring the inner sanctum of the individual. Gardenvista is a modern home offering the exclusivity of a private garden sanctuary and respite from the frenetic world beyond its boundaries.

The Secret Garden Becomes A Reality

“The Secret Garden” has to be realised and developed in terms of ideas and landscape spaces that could be easily defined and understood by homebuyers. The journey that one takes through the landscape at Gardenvista passes through a series of four garden spaces. Each of these gardens is themed to portray or call upon the use of one of four senses through the use of various plant species, hardscape materials and water.

Experiencing these senses centres upon the brain, the nervous system, and our emotional receptivity to these sensory stimuli. This is where the "inner sanctum" of the individual comes into play. Thus the gardens of sensory delights have been created.

Touch is examined and expressed through textures in the garden. These textures are both tactile and visual through the use of different textured stone surfaces, variance in the texture and contrasting foliage of plant species.

Sight is explored and shown through the use of colour in the garden. Plant species, which are especially colourful in their foliage or flowers, have been chosen. Hardscape finishes, particularly deep blue polished terrazzo, have also been employed to make this garden space more intensely colourful.

Sound is explored and articulated through both the sounds of birds and silence found in nature. Certain plant species are known to attract birds through their colour, the nectar of their flowers, or their desirability as nesting locales. A birdbath has been provided among these plantings. In addition, poles have been provided in the garden so that residents may bring their caged singing birds outdoors. Unlike other themed gardens where running water is ever-present, the sound of silence is featured in this garden. Water here is handled in still reflective pools where it quietly and uniformly flows down stainless steel from one level to the next.

The sense of smell is explored and expressed through the various scents found in trees and flowers. Fragrant flowering creepers climbing on and hanging down from the wooden trellises define this space.

Complementing The Garden

Gardenvista is discreetly located via a small quiet leafy road, spread out in a fan-shaped alignment that slowly unveils its gardens of different sensory delights. The residential tower blocks are designed in such a way that you are hardly aware of the towers that rise between the garden walls. Rising ten storeys high, they form the perimeter of the overall central "Secret Garden" space and become the backdrop for the garden. The tower blocks are oriented to capture and maximise views of the garden from the units. Their cool glass cladding reflects the sky and gardens, thereby amplifying them and becoming a perceptual extension of the gardens itself.
Overlooking the gardens are Gardenvista’s 318 beautiful apartments with sizes ranging from 800 sq ft for a one-bedroom with study unit to 1,450 sq ft for a four-bedroom unit. Thoughtfully planned with attention to every detail, the units are completed with quality interior finishes to suit a definitive lifestyle, from the East meets West fusion to the cosmopolitan and contemporary “Manhattan” styles.
