A new lifestyle eatery celebrating Singapore’s
rich culinary heritage has arrived at Far East
Square. Paying tribute to one of the nation’s
most beloved icons the street hawkers and their
legacies, foodmuseum, literally a modern food
museum for Singapore’s heritage food, provides
the public with an opportunity to sample dishes
cooked from generations-old recipes all under
one roof.
Fittingly housed in Far East Square, a venue
steeped in the rich tradition and history of Singapore,
the stalls in this eatery celebrate the tasteful
blend of the old and the new - Singapore’s
finest heritage foods dwelling in one modern food
court environment. Far East Square, a conservation
development by Far East Organization, also houses
many local eateries with proud tradition, making
it a destination for heritage food.
Taking a walk through this new eatery is akin
to a nostalgic stroll through a food museum. It
showcases local hawker favourites that have changed
little since their recipes were first perfected
and enjoyed by our forefathers in the streets.
This sense of fierce culinary pride is further
reinforced through the use of info-panels that
fringe all the stalls, detailing their respective
pedigrees and the histories behind their food,
stall and creator.
“We want to keep the local food heritage
alive and cooking. We want all locals and tourists
to savour their food and drinks in complement,
to taste our culture and history in every spoonful,
in every bite, and in every sip. This way, we
can add another dimension of enjoyment to our
heritage food and drinks,” says Mr Chia
Boon Pin, Chief Operating Officer, Retail &
Lifestyle Concepts Business Group and Director
of Corporate Affairs.
In conjunction with the official opening of foodmuseum,
the guest-of-honour, Mr Lim Neo Chian, Deputy
Chairman and Chief Executive of the Singapore
Tourism Board, presented prizes to winners of
the Yeo’s Drink Matching Contest, in which
Singaporeans voted for the best Yeo’s drinks
to be paired with their favourite local food. |
