| Sunny Development Limited (Sunny), a partnership between
Sino Group, Wharf Holdings and Chinese Estates Holdings
Limited, was awarded the 2004 Award of Commendation at
the Cityscape Architectural Review Awards (Masterplanning
category) for its proposed revolutionary vision of a “park
in the sky” for the West Kowloon Cultural District
(WKCD).
“The whole team is delighted to see our efforts
recognised for criteria that match our goals - contribution
to world architectural culture, invention and imagination,
respect for people, the planet and the context, environment
awareness and appropriateness,” said Mr Yu Wai
Wai, Executive Director of Sino Group and Sunny spokesperson.
The team of international consultants includes renowned
architectural firm AEDAS in partnership with the world
famous Lord Richard Rogers, Tadao Ando, Herzog de Meuron
and Jean Nouvel, urban and landscape designers EDAW,
structural consultants Hyder and Anthony Hunt &
Associates, theatre planner and acoustician Artec, museum
design, management and exhibition consultancy firm MMC
and Gallagher & Associates, performing arts consultant
IMG Artists, and architectural lighting specialist Alain
Guilhot.
PARC (The Park of Arts, Recreation and Culture), the
concept that propels this vision aims to transform Hong
Kong's physical and cultural landscape by creating a
world-class centre for music, dance, drama, design and
the visual arts in lush, green environment that welcomes
people of all ages.
In building an appreciation for the arts, and providing
space to showcase programmes and nurture creativity,
PARC will solidify Hong Kong's unique position on the
international stage as a bridge between eastern and
western cultures.
Sunny's master plan for WKCD sees a paradigm shift
in redefining Hong Kong's landscape. Instead of green
spaces fitting around structures, the design envisions
structures as an organic part within a defining green
space. PARC will comprise a large landscaped green park
spanning the entire 40-hectare waterfront WKCD site,
with museums, theatres, performance and art spaces,
a school of the arts and an education centre, and featuring
a 25-hectare park. The architecture will incorporate
iconic, yet practical designs and world-class arts,
cultural and educational facilities.
