| In recognition of their support for the Singapore Symphony
Orchestra (SSO), Far East Organization and seven other
donors who have over the years, each contributed more
than $1 million to the orchestra, were honoured with the
SSO Benefactor Award on 18 February 2005.
This award was unveiled at the SSO 26th Anniversary
Fund-Raising Gala Dinner, which was held at the Shangri-La
Hotel with Senior Minister and Mrs Goh Chok Tong as
the guests-of-honour.
The dinner raised a record high of $1 million for the
SSO, including pledges following a surprise performance
by Mrs Goh Chok Tong with her rendition of O
mio babbino caro and
Time to Say Goodbye, and bids amounting to $80,000
for two bottles of Baron' Arques wine, autographed respectively
by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and special guest Dr
Lee Boon Yang who attended the event with Mrs Lee.
Friends of SSO who came in support were entertained
to a multi-lingual performance of some of the most popular
musical pieces from classical favourite, Schubert's
Serenade to evergreen
Bengawan Solo and
Broadway hit Some Enchanted
Evening by guest singers.
Donors for this Gala Dinner included our Executive
Director Mrs Dorothy Chan, Far East Organization, Sino
Land Company Ltd, The Grande Group Ltd, Lee Foundation,
Natsteel Ltd, OCBC Bank, Mr Ong Beng Seng, The Shaw
Foundation, The Tan Foundation, United Overseas Bank
Ltd, WBL Corporation Ltd, and Mr Wong Nang Jang.
“The sum of $1 million was raised due mainly
to Senior Minister and Mrs Goh's presence and support,”
concluded Mrs Dorothy Chan, Chairperson of the Gala
Dinner Organising Committee, after the event. |
