Make full use of paper - write, print, and photocopy on
both sides. Recycle used paper for internal correspondence
or working drafts. Other printed matter such as suppliers'
brochures and mailers with single-sided printing can be
re-used as working paper. |
|
Place recycling bins in our various offices to collect
used paper, newspapers, magazines, etc for recycling. |
 |
|
 |
Use other means besides paper to disseminate or store
messages. Use the email instead of writing memos or
letters to deliver messages. Email documents in PDF
attachments instead of sending hard copies.
Route working drafts and proposals for comments/approval
electronically. Implement e-filing of documents and
correspondences.
Circulate one central copy of an announcement, when
time permits, or put it up on the notice board.
A brilliant idea from Linda Ramly of Corporate Affairs,
is to project minutes of meetings onto a screen during
meetings instead of having everyone bring their own
hardcopies. |
|
| Implement e-forms with the approval process also
done electronically. The e-forms should also be filed
electronically.
Post standard forms in FEOConnect for easy retrieval
and one-stop updating. No extra forms to be kept in
hard copies as this will result in wastage once a particular
form is updated. Download the forms only when required.
|
 |
|
 |
Invest in photocopiers and printers with duplex function
and keep these machines in good working order to avoid
paper wastage due to spoilage.
|
|
In all forms of written work, from minutes of meeting
to letters and proposals, be as concise as possible. Edit
conscientiously, proofread diligently and preview layout
critically before printing. Inculcate the habit of doing
it right the first time.
Print only relevant pages. Before printing, delete
all irrelevant information.
When using shared printing facilities printouts are
to be collected promptly to avoid losing or forgetting
them.

 |
|
 |
Communicate in person or through the telephone as far
as it is practical and efficient. Exercise restraint
in sending long emails and memos; the more that is written,
the more time is taken up in reading the emails/memos
to digest what has been written and in printing hard
copies.

Proposals to cut waste in electricity usage were received
from staff from various operating departments/units responsible
for the management and maintenance of FEO properties.
The Orange Regency team comprising Pamela Chee, Hospitality
Management Services, and Liang Tien Toong, Central Engineering
Unit had these suggestions: Do studies to ensure the optimum
quantity and quality of light at the property. Fix timers
to regulate the operation of the lights during periods
of low traffic. Change heat-producing bulbs to energy-producing
ones that consume less electricity. And use bulbs with
lower wattage but with the same degree of brightness to
conserve electricity. The initiative resulted in savings
of 26.62 per cent in electricity bills for the property.
