Hong Kong will have its
first shopping centre with a sports theme come this
July. Sino Group’s Olympian City 1 will be transformed
into ‘Sports City’ offering a brand new
shopping experience for sports enthusiasts and shoppers.
It will house different sports and recreational activities
plus all the fashionable and most exciting products.
Making all these available under one roof.
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony held in late December
2003, Mr Chan Cheung Kit, General Manager (Leasing)
of Sino Group said “Sports City is poised to set
a new benchmark in leisure activities for Hong Kong.
As a key part of the West Kowloon development plan with
ample car parking spaces and well connected public transport,
it’s absolutely an ideal place to ignite and spread
a completely new wave of sports enthusiasm. With its
prime location, there are unlimited consumer opportunities,
making it the best place to launch and develop retail
business.”
Costing more than HK$20 (S$4.344) million to renovate,
the new ‘Sports City’ has a state-of-the-art
three-dimensional design with a trendy athletic theme.
It is divided into five shopping zones, each concentrating
on a specific aspect.
Trendy Sports Zone has the latest in sports trends,
model toys and sports apparel. Modern Olympian Zone
collects popular sports products and sports apparel.
Champion’s Return Zone supports duel purposes;
a venue for fans to meet visiting sports stars and a
multi-media centre where detailed information about
the history of sports products with brand names can
be found. Tech Sports Zone is where shoppers go to find
specialty sports products for diving, wind-surfing,
water-skiing, mountaineering and so on. The spacious
Athena Plaza Zone provides shoppers with up-to-date
entertainment such as game centres and on-line games.
There will also be a sports health education centre,
providing fitness health information and services.
The new Sports City was launched in August 2004.
