| The National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) held a very
successful launch of their two-year cancer campaign –
FirstLight Singapore on 4 February 2004 at Far East Square.
Volunteers comprising doctors, nurses, researchers
and administrative staff of NCCS gave out more than
2000 apples in half an hour to the lunch time crowd
at Far East Square.
“There was always a good mix of crowd and the
design and layout of Far East Square was very conducive
and friendly to the nature of our work. The patrons
were also always more than generous and responsive to
our appeals.

“Hence, it was the obvious choice for us to launch
this event together with our friends at Far East Square
as we needed a place with very high crowd traffic during
lunch time and ease of movement. No other venue was considered,”
said Ms Rosemary Chng, Project Director of FirstLight
Singapore.
FirstLight’s aims are to educate and increase
awareness among the public about cancer prevention and
management. It is looking for volunteers to help spread
anti-cancer messages. Firstlight welcomes sponsors to
help support their fight against cancer.

| FirstLight also gives anti-cancer talks to schools and
institutions or corporations.
